My hero amongst the art directors of my youth was Willy Landels; the editor and art director of Harpers & Queen. He gave me my first ever commission shortly after I was thrown out of Art School. A lot of the work in this section was commissioned by him. As ever, in that wonderful era, I had total freedom and work was never rejected.
